More than a hundred years ago, growers from Aalsmeer started selling flowers on the market in Amsterdam. They sailed to the capital with self-built prams to sell their merchandise.. From these humble beginnings, Aalsmeer has developed over the years into the most important production and trade center for flowers and plants in the Netherlands… and in the world!
From Monday to Friday you can visit the largest flower auction in the world in Aalsmeer. It is impressive how large Royal FloraHolland is, how many millions of flowers and plants are traded and how they get in the seller’s shop the same day. You can easily visit the flower auction in Aalsmeer on your own. Get there early so you can see as much of the whole process as possible.
On Tuesdays and Saturdays, the corn mill in the center of Aalsmeer turns. You visit the mill to see the millers at work, but also to buy craft products in the shop.

The Flower Art Museum is the first museum in the world entirely dedicated to contemporary art, inspired by flowers and nature. In the museum you will find new exhibitions every quarter with artists from the Netherlands and abroad.

The most beautiful water tower in the Netherlands is located in Aalsmeer. You climb this on every second and fourth Sunday of the month for a beautiful view over the Westeinderplassen. But the tower in Art Deco style is also a work of art on the inside. In the months of July and August, the Watertoren is open every Sunday afternoon.
