Gouda cheese market

For centuries, Gouda cheese has been traded every Thursday on the Markt in Gouda. And just like in the old days, farmers and cheese merchants make a price by means of a ‘handshake‘. In addition to the world-famous cheese, you can enjoy stalls where stroopwafels and poffertjes are made and where old crafts are practiced. De Goudse Waag and Tourist information

Nowadays De Goudse Waag is set up as a Cheese and Crafts Museum. It tells about the history of cheese, the products that were weighed and traded here and how cheese is made. The Gouda Tourist Information Office is also located on the ground floor.

City Hall

The famous City Hall is located on the market square, in the middle of the cultural-historical heart of Gouda. This special building with the characteristic shutters and its unique chimes has a long history. Built in 1448 as an administrative center, the building has also been used in many different ways over the centuries, including, for example, for the administration of justice and as a meat hall. St. Janskerk
